Buying your first canvas tent? Here’s a short list of things you need to know about canvas tents and what to buy.
Canvas tents come in three main groups, the first are wall tents, the second spike tents and the third is range tents. Wall tents are the biggest, with walls and big entrances. They’re very basic yet are very sturdy and spacious; you probably have seen these in war movies as these are used by the military as shelter when deployed.
Spike tents and range tents are smaller canvas tents and do not have the space that wall tents offer. Spike tents have very short walls (less than 5 feet); the walls just offer enough height so that the space inside is a bit bigger. Range tents do not have any walls at all. They look like Indian teepees and would be just enough for one or two persons.
Canvas tents are made of cotton and are woven therefore these tents are very sturdy especially against wind. However, they tend to become very warm in hotter climates and tend to absorb water when it rains. In caring for canvas tents, you need to always make sure that they are dry before you store them.
